When it comes to acne, we all see the models and movie stars complaining about how terrible their skin used to look. Suddenly, we flash to an incredibly sad looking super model worrying about one pimple on her chin.
Man she must be having an awful day. I mean one pimple on her chin?? Her career, nay, her entire life is over...or at least it was until magic zit eraser 500 came around, all for 3 easy payments of 19.95!
Now if you're slightly older than the typical acne market, you've probably been around the block once or twice and know most of these products are just a waste of time and money. If you're not sure if you exactly old enough to start looking elsewhere for answers about acne, answer this quick question:
When a vampire is exposed to direct sunlight, he/she:
A.) Bursts into flame
B.) Becomes covered in more glitter than the floor at a grade school dance
All jokes aside, when people are well out of their teen years and into their 20's and even 30's, it's very discouraging to wonder if there actually any products out on the market today that will actually help them with their acne. Even more so, are there products that will take care of my pimples and won't give me dry, itchy skin on top of it.
The short answer, unfortunately, is no. The long answer is still no, but it will allow me to explain why exactly no products will help you as well as open you to the real avenues to finally get rid of your acne once and for all.
The biggest problem that we, as acne sufferers have to overcome is our obsession with our skin. I don't mean the running to the bathroom first thing every morning to see if we've had any new breakouts from the night before....well, ok, yes, definitely stop doing that or you'll just drive yourself crazy and stress yourself out, leading to even more pimples.
But what I truly mean is stop treating your pimples and your acne by putting crap on your skin. One problem that all acne sufferers have is sensitive skin. It doesn't matter if it's dry, oily, shiny, slimy, whatever. We all have sensitive skin and must treat it accordingly. Otherwise, we'll just irritate it and (surprise, surprise!) cause more break outs.
So what must go? Everything. Seriously. You should only put one thing on your skin every day; moisturizer. And not just any moisturizer, either. It should be something natural such as at least 99% pure Aloe Vera jelly/lotion, Emu Oil or Jojoba Oil. This helps reduce the effect of dead skin clogging your pores and also helps your skin produce less oil throughout the day. Two other things that you can place on your skin 2-3 times a week would be a light baking scrub to clear away said dead skin and oil as well as raw, natural honey immediately after to moisturize as well as control bacteria on your skin.
Now I know I just got done saying "stop putting crap on your face!" but this just helps your skin heal in the short term while we take care of the real problems for the long term.
"Real problems?" you ask?
See, the real problem with acne that the industry doesn't want to talk about much is that it stems completely from problems inside your body. For instance, a surge of insulin in the blood stream causes our skin cells to produce too much oil. Normally, this isn't a big deal at all.
However, fast forward to a nearly two decades of this happening daily and you might understand the problem. And not only does the insulin cause oily skin, but over time, it also causes our skin cells to dry out and thicken, leading to more dead skin on our face.
Lastly, this also has the effect of weakening our immune systems to a point; we develop a low-level chronic inflammation within our bodies. What this does is cause the acne causing bacteria on our skin to begin multiplying out of control.
Mix all of these together and we have a recipe for certain disaster.
So what can we do? Well the biggest step is to limit insulin spiking foods such as white carb's, milk and dairy and cutting back as much as possible on processed items in general. All of these cause our blood sugar levels to spike to high levels, which in turn causes our insulin to spike in response.
I'm sure you're aware of the 2Pm blah's after lunch, right? It's a direct result of said blood sugar spike.
Also, increasing the amount of green, leafy vegetables in your diet is a great way to help. They are jam packed full of vitamins and nutrients that will help bring your body back into balance. Another great move is to drink at least 1 liter of water a day, if not more, to help your body flush away excess buildup of toxins and insulin.
Lastly, the most powerful method to clear away your acne naturally and permanently is to complete a fast. You can either do something like a mono-diet of eating apples for 3-5 days, or even do a juice/water only fast for several days.
I realize the last two methods for curing acne might seem weird, new agey or even downright stupid; I know because I was right there thinking the same thing when I heard about it. However I myself completed a juice fast for 5-6 days and was completely clear within 15 days and I haven't looked back since.
